Tips and best practices

  • Keep the foreground darker than the background — scanners rely on this contrast direction
  • Avoid light foreground on dark background unless you test thoroughly, as some older phones struggle with inverted codes
  • Brand violet on white is a safe starting point — the default here (#6d4dff) passes AA contrast
  • If using a colored background, increase error correction to Q or H for extra scan margin
  • Print a test code at final size and scan it with an older phone in mixed lighting before committing
